Colin Burress began his career with the Memphis Division of Fire Services on September 14, 1998. He was prompted to Fire Driver in 2001,promoted to Fire Lieutenant in 2004, promoted to Fire Battalion Chief in 2013, and Division Chief in 2017. As a Division Chief, he worked daily with key stakeholders in the City of Memphis and surrounding areas advocating preparedness and resiliency Chief Burress has headed several projects including the Operation Feed Campaign (Memphis Food Bank). State Fire Marshal's Office Smoke Detector program. designing and development of the Special Operations Disaster City prop, design and development of the Memphis Fire Rescue Boat. The work that embodies Chief Burress' Career has been in the Special Operations Division where he and his staff were able to acquire grants for the Division of Fire Services totaling over 1 million dollars, redevelopment of the Special Operations Division to increase and retain valued members, and the transitioning of the current technical rescue classes so that members receive national certifications. Chief Burress is a Task Force Leader for Tennessee Task Force One (TN-TF1), a member of FEMA's Blue Incident Support Team (IST), board member of the Fire Museum of Memphis, Member of Tennessee Fire Chief's Association, and a member of the International Fire Chief's Association. Chief Burress has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Master's degree in Operations Management, and a graduate of the National Fire Academy's Executive Fire Officer Program. Chief Burress also holds the Chief Fire Officer designation from the Center for Public Safety and Excellence. In his free time, Chief Burress enjoys traveling, attending sporting events and spending quality time with his wife, children and friends.
