BOMA Memphis offers a wide range of educational opportunities designed to promote the highest levels of knowledge, professionalism, and capability. Membership insures being kept up-to-date on the vast array of issues affecting the industry

Designations:

RPA (Real Property Administrator) - To be awarded an RPA, you must complete six mandatory courses, one elective course and attend a one-day Ethics is Good Business® ShortCourse (TM), in addition to fulfilling extensive management experience requirements.

Completion of the following courses is mandatory for the RPA:

The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part I 
The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part II 
Real Estate Investment and Finance 
Environmental Health and Safety Issues 
Budgeting and Accounting 
Law and Risk Management
Ethics is Good Business® ShortCourse

You must complete one more course, chosen from the following three electives:

Managing the Organization
Fundamentals of Real Property Administration 
Leasing and Marketing for Property Managers 
Asset Management

Other requirements include:

3 years of verifiable property management experience in a portfolio or building 40,000 sq. ft. or larger. Experience must incorporate 18 out of 25 categories, as listed on the BOMI Institute website.

A completed 4-page RPA Experience Requirement Form (available for download on the BOMI Institute website)

Compliance with the BOMI Institute's Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct

Please note:

To maintain active status of your RPA designation, 18 points of Continuing Professional Development credit must be earned every three years and you must pay BOMI a fee.

Once you have completed your RPA, you may earn an FMA by completing two to three additional courses, depending on which courses have been taken.


 BOMI-HP-Badge 

NEW! HP (High-Performance Sustainable Buildings) - Growing occupant demand, investor pressures, and building code requirements have led to a new standard in high-performance building, driving many markets to mandate comprehensive sustainability and energy-efficiency programs. To meet this challenge, BOMI International developed the new High-Performance Program to further enhance the competencies—knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform key job functions—of industry professionals who are responsible for implementing sustainable initiatives.

The three-course High-Performance Program delivers an integrated and practical curriculum designed by industry leaders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide the advanced knowledge you need to:

  • Create and apply sustainable initiatives
  • Optimize current and future high-performance building operations
  • Maximize cost-savings and environmental stewardship
  • Increase your earning potential in the industry

This designation provides learners with an in-depth understanding of how to define, initiate, pay for, complete, and obtain a return on investment for sustainable initiatives within all segments of a building or portfolio.

You may earn the BOMI-HP Designation by successfully completing all three required High-Performance Program courses:

FMA (Facilities Management Administrator) - The FMA designation is geared to facility managers who work for a company or organization that manufactures a product, or provides non-real estate services as its primary business. The program teaches you to manage facilities in a way that best supports staff and fits into the organization's overall objectives. FMA students must complete seven mandatory courses and attend 'Ethics is Good Business'.

To achieve your FMA designation, you must complete the following mandatory courses:

The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part I 
The Design, Operation, and Maintenance of Building Systems, Part II 
Technologies for Facilities Management 
Facilities Planning and Project Management 
Real Estate Investment and Finance 
Environmental Health and Safety Issues 
Ethics is Good Business® ShortCourse

You must complete one more course, chosen from the following two electives:

Managing the Organiztion
Asset Management 
Fundamentals of Facility Management

Please note:

To maintain active status of your FMA designation, 18 points of Continuing Professional Development credit must be earned every three years and you must pay BOMI a fee.

Compliance with the BOMI Institute's Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct is required

Once you have completed your FMA, you may earn an RPA by completing two or three additional courses depending on which courses have been taken and meeting the BOMI Institute RPA Experience Criterion.


SMT (Systems Maintenance Technician) and SMA (Systems Maintenance Administrator) - The SMT and SMA designations offer instruction to hands-on technicians and building engineers. You must fulfill five courses detailing specific operating systems (i.e. boilers, electrical, plumbing) to earn the SMT. You must complete an additional three courses addressing the broader topics of building design, administration, and environmental health and safety issues, to earn the SMA.

Candidates for the SMT or SMA must complete the following mandatory courses on specific building operating systems:

Boilers, Heating Systems, and Applied Mathematics 
Refrigeration Systems and Accessories 
Air Handling, Water Treatment, and Plumbing Systems 
Electrical Systems and Illumination 
Energy Management and Controls

To earn the SMA designation, you must also complete these additional courses:

Building Design and Maintenance 
Administration 
Environmental Health and Safety Issues

All SMT and SMA designees must abide by the Code of Professional Ethics and Conduct.
